Job Description:
Substations Electrical Design
- In addition to AIS/GIS and greenfield/brownfield projects, the candidate will act as a technical authority for the electrical and physical design of transmission substations ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV.
- Leading Electrical Design activities related to standards, advanced design techniques, grounding and lightning, regulatory compliance, and innovative technologies and technological solutions will be the candidate’s responsibility.
- With a working knowledge of major equipment such as transformers, capacitors, reactors, disconnect switches, circuit breakers, FACTS, and energy storage, the candidate will apply extensive substation design expertise to layout, analytical studies, lighting, power cables, and station service power supply.
- In order to ensure compliance with BC Hydro requirements as well as important CSA/ULC/CEC and IEEE/IEC standards, the candidate will apply a solid understanding of power system planning, system operations, protection & control, and project management.
- Effective use of CAD and design tools, including 3D modeling using AutoCAD, Inventor, and Vault, would be expected of the candidate; familiarity with grounding, lightning, and bus design tools is advantageous.
Substations Civil/Structural Design
- The applicant will offer extensive technical knowledge in the design and construction of electric utility substations ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV, including civil, structural, and seismic aspects.
- In addition to seismic analysis and design of substation structures, the candidate will perform structural design, analysis, and detailing for concrete, steel, masonry, and timber structures related to substation control and feeder buildings, electrical equipment supports and foundations, subterranean concrete manholes/vaults, and cable duct banks.
